The coronavirus pandemic has forced many countries around the world to change their normal order. With public gatherings banned and social distance setting a new standard, many wondered how the major American sports leagues would adapt to the new working environment. The big baseball league reached an impasse with its players after the local team proposed to cut wages because of the ongoing pandemic. Fans are still waiting to see if the NBA will start its season on the 31st. The month of July in Orlando will be resumed without any problems. As regards university football, the coronavirus pandemic could force teams to revise their programmes.

Mark Emmert talks about football atCollege.

NCAA President Mark Emmert recently announced that the college football season could begin in September and end in November. In a phone call with Congressional Republicans, Emmert said he expected the season to start as planned on Labor Day weekend. However, the season is expected to end with Thanksgiving, which means the playoffs will have to start earlier than expected. Emmert admitted that the NCAA does not have the authority to change the sports plan because there is no central governing body for university football. However, the sports world has organised several conferences on football to discuss how to respond to the current circumstances caused by the pandemic.

Emmert’s proposal to shorten the regular season seems to contradict the University Football Playoffs Committee, which operates independently of the NCAA. The committee plans to hold playoff games in January. However, since health experts predict that a second wave of coronavirus could lead to increased morbidity in autumn and winter, a shorter season may be the best plan for a college football event this year.

Virtual TeamMeetings

The College teams held virtual team meetings after they had to cancel spring training in March. However, some universities have allowed student athletes to return to their campuses for volunteer team activities. In a telephone conversation with the Republican Congressional Commission, Emmert also said that the teams would follow local, state and municipal policies regarding fans’ access to the stadium to watch the games.

Although this statement has given fans hope to attend this season’s games, the number of people attending a game can be strictly limited. Despite the difficulties, fans are happy that the university season is likely to start on time.

The tight schedule may hold some surprises and many analysts have predicted that the energy industry will experience several disruptions this year. Although many hope that university football can overcome the difficulties of other competitions, uncertainty remains due to the unpredictability of the current coronavirus pandemic.
